Why Is Me Time SO Important?
This life can get pretty crazy and overwhelming… Therefore it is absolutely ESSENTIAL to take some time for yourself to help you re-center, relax and clear out your mind.
I’ve dealt with a lot of anxiety in my life and it was due to overworking myself and forgetting to give myself a break and some love.
I’d love to share with you all WHY is prioritizing your ME time absolutely important so that you can feel your best.
- Reduces stress/ Anxiety
As I’ve mentioned earlier, I’ve dealt with quite a bit of anxiety in my life and it was due to overdoing EVERYTHING and forgetting about ME time.
Good news is that I conquered it with learning how to re-balance my schedule and actually scheduling in everyday time to relax and be selfish, meaning take time to truly take care of myself and not think about the rest.
2. Made me a better coach.
Taking time to slow down and re-center yourself can reduce your stress, clear out your mind and help you be a better performer at your work. You can show up less sympathetically heightened and more present.
3. You make better choices.
This goes for all areas of life. I find after taking more time to relax and being less stressed helped me make better decisions with my nutrition, in my relationships and at work. I’m clearer minded, simply happier and less stressed which helps with making wiser decisions for myself.
Now… Here is what I suggest you do to help kick start this habit!
- Schedule in your ME time.
First things first… Make it s priority in your life. Schedule in 30–60 minutes (whatever amount of time you can dedicate) in your calendar and be sure to treat it with importance.
2. Meditate/ Breath work
Something I do during my ME time is meditate for 10 minutes. This one helped me A LOT! Doing this helps to calm the nervous system and helps with clearing out your mind!
Breath work: Inhale 3 seconds, exhale 5 seconds and hold for 1 second (repeat x 10) — This will automatically calm down the nervous system.
Meditation: I use the Calm or Insight Timer App on my iPhone.
3. Write in my gratitude journal.
This habit is a beautiful one to start as it can be a powerful activity to promote insight and self-awareness. I know you’ve heard this one before but I swear by it… IT WORKS! Journaling helps us improve, generates more joy and it helps us reprogram our brains to be more positive on a daily basis.
- Write down 3 things that you are most grateful for TODAY.
- Write down 3 affirmations for yourself.
4. Take an Epsom salt bath.
Light some candles and have a nice Epsom salt bath. The two main ingredients of Epsom salt are magnesium and sulfate. It is believed the combination of both ingredients stimulates detoxification pathways.
Magnesium is a natural substance that aids a variety of bodily functions, including the removal of toxins. Sulfate can strengthen the walls of the digestive tract and make releasing toxins easier. Epson salt baths are known to help you relax! Try it out!
Hope these tips help you out friends!
